This course is designed to give students the knowledge and ability to recognize signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest, activate emergency response system and provide help to victims requiring CPR until more advanced healthcare providers arrive at the scene and take over.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Describe the impact of high-performance CPR on patient’s chances of survival
  • Explain the Chain of Survival concepts
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of someone requiring CPR
  • Perform high-performance CPR on adult, child and infant
  • Describe how to perform CPR with assistance from other lay rescuers
  • Give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups (adult, child and infant)
  • Demonstrate the use and operation of AED
  • Describe and recognize signs of choking adult, child and infant
  • Provide relief to a choking adult, child and infant

Course certification requires successful demonstration skills in CPR for adult and infant, and the proper use of AED. Certification is valid for 2 years.
